GARDEN SUPPORTERS TO SAVOR CULTURAL TREATS AT TASTE OF THE TAFT GARDENS

In a rare opportunity for the general public to explore the privately owned Taft-Ojai Botanic Gardens, "Taste of the Taft" will fill the garden paradise with unique experiences to delight the senses and savor the beauty. In addition to your walk through these unique gardens, Ventura Botanical Gardens will provide music, art, food, wine, and more at Taft-Ojai Botanic Gardens on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. - 5 p.m.
The beautiful gardens of the Taft will offer up live music, art, gourmet food, wine, and more to complement the themes of each garden location. Attendees will also enjoy an elegant auction and guided tours unveiling the secrets of the lush gardens' more rustic areas.
According to event Co-Chair Beverly McCaslin, "We want everyone to join us for this grand event. John Taft has opened his private garden to explore and enjoy. We will have the opportunity to experience a garden in bloom, with the same Mediterranean Biome plant life that we will find in our garden and is evidence of the respect for the environment that we believe is important for our future. Mark your calendars, because you'll to attend this fabulous event!"
You'll want to dress casually with comfortable walking/hiking shoes to explore the garden estate. On your day trip, you'll find parking at the Montessori School, 806 Baldwin Road, Ojai, CA. 93023. Directions: 101 Freeway to Hwy 33, left on Baldwin Rd. (Hwy 150); travel over the Ventura River, pass Burnham and Los Encinos, the Montessori School is on the left, look for our sign. Shuttles will escort you to and from the Taft.

Walk Grant Park-A New Year's Resolution
Next Walk: Saturday, 01/27/12 - 10 a.m.
Meet At City Hall Upper Parking Lot.
Join in a bit of exercise and enjoy the spectacular coastal views from Grant Park while you learn more about the Vision Plan for the Ventura Botanical Gardens at Grant Park.
All ages are welcome; you may be surprised when an 80-year old passes you up! We walk for about two hours with some uphill terrain staying mostly to established roads only veering off on a path here and there. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat, sun protection, water, and a bag if you would like to help collect trash along the way.
Jeff Lambert, Director of Community Development for the City of Ventura, will lead this walk as well as our regularly scheduled Grant Park walks. We meet the 4th Saturday of each month. Ventura Botanical Gardens Board Members are available to field your questions and provide background on the project.

BOOK/DVD SALE & TORTILLA MAKING AT THE OLIVAS ADOBE
SALE
Shop for bargain-priced books, music CDs and movie DVDs on all subjects-donated by adobe supporters as a fundraiser-on Saturday and Sunday, February 11th and 12th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Olivas Adobe, 4200 Olivas Park Drive in Ventura.
TORTILLAS
Enjoy a delicious history lesson about making tortillas-from pre-Conquest Montezuma to 19th century Californian techniques to present modern methods-as you make, cook and eat them hot off the comal (cast iron tortilla griddle) in the courtyard fire pit, Sunday, February 12, at 1 p.m. during free and fun Olivas Adobe Family Sundays.
TOURS
In addition to these free events, historical tours of the Olivas Adobe and grounds are available every weekend (11 a.m.-4 p.m.), as well as a unique gift shop, where tickets for tours can be purchased.
BECOME A DOCENT
Be a part of these "history with a future" events and more by becoming a docent volunteer for the Olivas Adobe Historical Interpreters.

Ventura County's only remaining Monterey-style adobe home from the Rancho era-built by the Olivas family in the 1840s is a California Historical Landmark that celebrates Ventura's rancho and Latino heritage through weekend tours, seasonal school educational outreach programs and year round special events.
Funds raised by the Olivas Adobe Historical Interpreters events are used to restore and maintain the historic artifacts on display in the Adobe.
