One thing all people in any aspect of the health-based industry can agree on is a healthy body begins with the basics. Along with exercise your diet is extremely important. However, if you're like me, most of us find it hard to eat right all of the time. Sometimes that fast food just calls to you.

Homemade Beauty Remedies

Times are tough; however, we still want to look and feel our best. As much as I want my clients to come see me for ALL their haircare needs, I also, would like to think that the more I share, the more my clients appreciate what I do. So, to ensure that everyone I touch feels touched, I'm going to reveal some at home beauty secrets. These are simple things using household ingredients to help you look your best in between professional appointments. These tips are to help with your beauty regime during these hard economic times. However, as a licensed cosmetologist, I stress that these treatments are not a substitute for seeing your hairstylist or esthetician.
HAIR RINSE FOR SOFT SHINY HAIR
- Mix 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- the juice from 1/2 a lemon
- 1 cup water
Hair Rinse Directions: Shampoo and rinse as normal. Pour mixture on hair and massage into hair. Rinse with cool water for extra shine.
MOISTURIZING CONDITIONER
Combine 1 egg yolk with a mashed avocado.
Moisturizing Conditioner Directions:
- Apply to hair for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse out.
- Follow with normal shampoo regimen.
MAYONNAISE HAIR MASK
Hair Mask Directions:
- Apply 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to damp hair.
- Cover with plastic cap and let sit for 15-30 minutes.
- RINSE WELL.
- Shampoo as normal.
EXFOLIATING LEMON AND TOMATO FACIAL MASK
Combine:
- 1 over-ripe tomato
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon instant oatmeal
Facial Mask Directions:
- Put ingredients in blender until smooth.
- Apply mixture to face for 15 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
- Follow with moisturizer.
SMOOTHING ALMOND-HONEY FACIAL MASK
- Mix 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon almond oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
Facial Mask Directions:
- Stir until blended.
- Apply thin layer to face for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
- Follow with moisturizer.

The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all of you to know.
The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible not coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
In order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections WHILE YOU ARE STILL HEALTHY and not showing any FLU SYMPTOMS of H1N1 infection, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand washing (well highlighted in all official communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).
3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water.
Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asana to clean nasal cavities), but blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.
5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits).
If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. Drink as much of warm liquids as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
