ArtWalk's 60 exhibits and performances on October 24 & 25
smARTen up Ventura's Downtown Cultural District
ArtWalk is one of the best ways to check out Ventura's bustling and diverse arts community. The free, self-guided weekend walking tour showcases 200 established and emerging artists and performers at over 60 galleries, events and eclectic gallery-for-a day venues in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District, Midtown and Avenue, just steps from the beach and pier. Multicultural performances, a variety of children's activities and a free shuttle bus connect venue restaurants, salons, antique shops, boutiques and cafes. A free shuttle bus runs continuously throughout the event connecting downtown and venues on the Avenue.
ArtWalk Featured Artist Bijian Fan will be showing his intricate, three-dimensional paper sculptures at the San Buenaventura Artists' Union Gallery (330 S. California St.). The Beijing-born artist uses two-dimensional materials and unconventional techniques to create light and airy sculptures that have earned numerous awards and been shown nationwide as well as at the Olympic Cultural Festival during the Beijing Olympics.
Other Harvest ArtWalk highlights include:
6th Annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration at Mission Park on Saturday, Oct. 24, hosted by Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc, includes an ancient and traditional dance ceremony.
The Empty Bowl Project, presented by FOOD Share, features handmade artisan bowls for sale donated by the Ventura County Potters' Guild to benefit hunger programs in Ventura County (on view at The Wine Rack, 14 S. California St.).
Docent-led tours of the City of Ventura Municipal Art Collection are available at City Hall (501 Poli) on Sat., Oct. 24 from 2 to 5 pm. Two stages of live entertainment, programmed by Zoey's Cafe and Buffalo Records, includes: Brendan B Willing James, Lee Koch, Skyler, Zack Hexum, My Brother's Band and Big Tweed.
"Park and Ride" at Stoneworks Studios, is an installation of bikes and chairs in a community garden setting featuring 60 plus visual artists and live music by Sus Corez, Cole Smothers, Mark Antaky & Agents Of Soul, and George Clig and Friends.

| "GALLERY AT THE CROWNE" PRESENTS "FALL '09/WINTER '10"
At "Gallery at the Crowne", the "FALL '09/WINTER '10" exhibit is fully installed and will remain on display until January 10, 2010. The Artists' Reception for this exhibit will be in late October or early November. The exhibiting areas of "the gallery" consists of various wall space on the 1st floor of the hotel inclusive of the Business Center, the Aqua Bar and C-Street Restaurant. Everything shown at "Gallery at the Crowne" is available for public viewing and is for sale. There are 3 exhibit rotations a year with this one being the longest running one.
The "FALL '09/WINTER '10" exhibit consists of 12 different artist's work totaling over 50 individual fine art pieces. The materials used to produce these artworks range from oil paint, to watercolor to mix media. The imagery ranges from realistic, impressionistic to abstract and the size of these artworks span from 5 ' x 6' to 1 1/2 " x 2".
The Curator, Terry Bray, strives to supply a wide variety of subject matter, styles and artists to keep each exhibit fresh and interesting. With over 30 years experience of supporting the arts in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and being an established sculptor herself, Terry Bray has a keen eye for some great art. In an effort for everyone to own some fine art she offers a 0% interest, lay away payment plan that is customized to the needs of the purchaser while protecting the interests of the artist. She is especially passionate about the promotion of Ventura County artists and boasts "You may find some great art else where, but you won't find better art anywhere!"
The Gallery At The Crowne is located where California Street meets the Sea.
