GALLERY 255 PRESENTS
"NEW WORKS" By SECO

By Stacie Logue

VENTURA, CA (March 3, 2010) - The next exhibit at Gallery 255 will be new work by the local Ojai artist known as Seco. The dates for the exhibit are March 18 - April 10, 2010. The artist's reception is scheduled on Saturday March 20 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Seco's exhibit will also be open for April First Friday April 2nd 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The exhibit is a collection of Seco's recent work in mixed media on paper in a small to medium format. Seco's gestural drawings are of classical musicians and nudes. The drawings of the musicians were sketched during rehearsals of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, last November, when they were preparing Verdi's Requiem, under the baton of the Maestro Gustavo Dudamel.

In the artist's words: "These works on paper are inspired in the spirit of the gesture, the blind drawing, the emotional approach to the image that contains everything including invisibility; they try to capture the physical weight of music on the air and the form of the dreams of a nude model in a pose...these drawings remind me of a quote from painter Paul Gauguin: "In order to see, I close my eyes..."

Artist's Statement - Tina O'Brien

Tina O'Brien is feeling lucky to be an artist living in Ventura, California with her husband and two children. The entire family is part of what she calls the "Surf Culture". Her painting style is poetic realism, inspired by the visual world around her.

"Ventura Beach is a little piece of heaven with the island views, the natural beaches and the local scenes to use as my inspiration," says O'Brien. She with her family plays, surfs, and walks along the beach nearly every weekend throughout the year.

Tina's artistic effort is to try to get the viewer of her artwork to see their everyday surroundings with new eyes. One painting often leads into another. Her painting technique is very traditional, starting with an under painting for composition, a color value study, followed by applications of a thick-over-thin layering of paint, working from dark to light values in a wide array of custom mixed colors. She tries to capture freshness, simplicity and luminosity in each of her original art works.

VENTURA'S SPRING ARTWALK
FOR YOUR HOME PRESENTS
DAVID DEYELL, ARTIST

By J. F. Robinson

Artwalks are a tradition for historical Downtown Ventura. Thousands of people pour into downtown strolling from one gallery and business to another where these entrepreneurs have guest artists display their creations. The event is like an old-time festive occasion where the community comes together to celebrate art, photography, sculpture, food, music, dance and entertainment. Included in those displays are hundreds of pieces of art, photography, sculpture and the like. Participating art venues are to include restaurants, salons, antique shops, unique boutiques and coffee shops.

One can enjoy outdoor multicultural performances and free shuttle bus to the outlying locations. You'll find restaurants are packed and laughter everywhere both inside and out. Families and friends share the day/evening together while young and old couples hold hands strolling aimlessly along the event route. Meantime the men are out looking for/at more than just art - the women, of course. Women are dress to subtly entice the hunters. Downtown normally becomes full of activities.

Then there are the musician playing the best of their best musical scores to attentive audiences and subtly alluring belly dancers that seem to take some into a temporary hypnotic state. Of course, you'll find the boys there, too, watching.

One of the hot spots through the years for Artwalk showings is that of "FOR YOUR HOME FURNITURE" located at 443 East Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001-2626 (805) 641-1919. In addition to serving Southern California with fine furnishings, "FOR YOUR HOME FURNITURE" has historically been a major participant in the Ventura Artwalks for at least 17 - 18 years.

FOR YOUR HOME FURNITURE will once again present award winning David Deyell, AIA Emeritus Architect/Watercolor Artist at the Spring Artwalk. Deyell uses composition, values, color, shapes and symbols. His paintings are in the "California Style". The artwalk is among one of many events where Deyell demonstrates and shows his art. David Deyell will be either demonstrating his painting, the process thereof, teaching classes and/or conducting workshops everywhere from:
  • Ventura's Spring Artwalk,
  • to the Santa Paula Railroad Depot for the Santa Paula Society,
  • 2010 Fair in Arts to Professional Arts Building at Ventura County Fair Ground,
  • through the Yosemite Art Center (a plein air demonstration) at various parks in Yosemite,
  • Valley Watercolor Society at the Encino Community Center,
  • Valley Watercolor Society in Northridge.
So far in 2010, Deyell has already completed demonstrations at the Glendale Art Association and for the San Fernando Art Club. David is available for selected demonstrations, workshops and judging. His paintings are available at other local galleries, too.

This active artist is a member of the Buenaventura Art Association, Westlake Village Art Guild, California Gold Coast Watercolor Society, Signature Member, Valley Water Color Society, Signature Member, and Thousand Oaks Plein Air Watercolorists Signature, Member.

As for this year's Artwalk, the City of Ventura's Artwalk Website is quoted, "The Artwalk is a free, self-guided walking tour of 200 established and emerging artists at over 80 galleries, studios and eclectic gallery-for-a day venues in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District. The event is held just steps from the beach and the Ventura Pier…" "ArtWalk is one of the best ways to check out Ventura's bustling and diverse art community. April 2010 featured artist is Catherine Day-Barroca. She will be showing her work at FOX FINE JEWELRY at 210 East Main Street in Downtown Ventura during the ArtWalk on Saturday, April 13, 2010 from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday 14 p.m. - 5 p.m."
